Terror, Squids With Jet Packs and Splendid Similes

There have been monsters storming in from all directions today. St Edward's Primary School in Castle Donington and Tregolls School in Truro have both send in species ideas this afternoon.

Some are terrifying, for example Sadie has written about the Spike Attack, which is a type of monster with bloody spikes that can roll up behind you and attack. Jasmine has written about a species with a drooling mouth that extends up to fifty times its original size so it can eat anything in his way.

Other ideas conjure up wonderful images such as Oliver's Iballisticsquid species - squids with jetpacks! I'm imagining one in my head right now - it's hilarious!

Some are downright evil - Zayed's monster eats kids that are on Father Christmas's good list! Hmm ... perhaps I'd better be naughty then ...

I enjoyed many revolting similes by imaginative seven and eight years olds.

Zayed wrote about The Digger Wolf. "It feels like disgusting wood worms creeping around spongy, mashed potato." This is a wonderful description of the way something feels. Can you imagine touching The Digger Wolf? Yuck!

Aurora's monster species sounds like volcanoes and birds tweeting. This is a very interesting mixture of sounds. I wonder if the monsters have a booming voice that sometimes squeaks. Or is it that their footsteps boom and their noses squeak?

Kacey wrote: "My monster smells like stinky fish which has been in the garage for one month."

Alfie wrote: "He smells like a sock that’s been filled with dog poo and smashed against the wall." I wouldn't like to meet his monster! I'd better go out and buy some nose plugs.

Cody paints a very vivid picture: "My monster is a ferocious, savage creature who smells as loathsome as a rotten blue cheese filled sausage left in the porch on a hot day."

And in case you're feeling queasy, here's a less revolting simile from Jasmine, about Eyerison, a type of monster from France: "My monster smells like candy to attract children. It is as sweet as freshly picked strawberries squirted with whipped cream on a plate of cotton candy."
