Flies Flying Overhead, Candy Cane Hornes and Scraping Toenails

Here's a great example of a monster description from a child at Rosemellin School in Cornwall.
Snotty is a very smelly monster he has flies flying over his head day and night but he doesn't mind. Snotty has only one broken candy cane as a horn. Snotty has purple eyes, purpler than a plum. Snotty was born with one monstrous tooth it’s hard for him not to bite his tongue. Snotty likes to eat mouldy cornflakes with snot milk, snake bolognaise and roasted rat ice cream, sprinkled in eyeballs. It is because of this that he has a round tummy. Snotty’s arms are shorter than a 2 year olds arms with deadly sharp claws. Every day Snotty rubs stinky, mouldy cheese all over his feet.
I really like this description because the young writer has shown how disgusting the monster is by describing things around it like the flies flying over head and what it likes to eat. Showing is often better than telling. I have to say, 'mouldy cornflakes with snot milk, snake bolognaise and roasted rat ice cream, sprinkled in eyeballs' is one of the most revolting monster food yet (and I rather like reading about revolting things!)

Here's a quote from another child at the same school:
His eyes are as blue as a sapphire ring. He was born with one and a half eyes which look different ways. He is as red as a devil.
Good use of smilies. Also, I like the eyes - they're a bit different. It's good to have original ideas.

Another child from Rosemellin has called a monster Slimy Shriggle. I really like this name - it sounds funny. This pupil has also used great similes, such as:
Shriggle has black pointy ears as black as the night sky.
And finally,
He never cuts his nails and they scrap along the floor.
Already this monster is disgusting me! I'm imagining the horrible, piercing sound as its toenails scrape along the ground. A nice touch.
